Solaris Allergen-Friendly Bodega, Fall 2024
Solaris is an allergen-friendly bodega imagined as both a branding system and a response to Kansas City’s food access gaps. Built around the reality |of redlining and limited access to nutritious options, the project asks a simple but urgent question: what would it feel like if safe food were also abundant, beautiful, and easy to trust?
Positioned as an oasis, Solaris offers a fully allergen-safe environment where every product is free from the top eight allergens, removing the constant low-level anxiety that often shadows grocery shopping. The experience centers clarity and care through intuitive packaging and in-store SafeShop kiosks, which allow individuals to quickly identify foods that meet their specific dietary needs without exhaustive label-checking. This shifts the act of shopping from one of vigilance to one of confidence.
Grounded in values of taste without compromise, specialized information, and inclusivity, Solaris challenges the stigma that allergen-friendly food is limiting or joyless. Instead, it reframes it as expansive, flavorful, and deeply communal. The goal is not just access, but ease. Not just safety, but pleasure. In doing so, Solaris creates a space where individuals and families can gather around food with a renewed sense of trust, comfort, and belonging.
